The Day After Libation
By
Tatiana Pahlen
What’s in us, mortals,
so abysmally wrong?
Despite our creed or gender,
We hurt people we love most.
How? We don’t remember!
Being silly in the choice of words,
sheltered by a libation’s bender,
we throw salt on each others’ wounds,
Slaying Love once cherished.
What renders this cycle one can’t avoid,
Sudden urge to play game of banter:
self-destructing Drive or defiant mood,
Fear of being abandoned?
Next you awaken
with your heart knifed,
feeling confused and toxic;
Love takes time to mend and revive.
What is wrong with us, mortals?
