Broken Digit

I busted my little toe so many times,
It didn’t interrupt my active life!
I played tennis, swam and danced
No one heard my curses or cries
I never showed crisis!

This time the same newly injured toe
Has a different, dire effect
My body reacts furiously; it’s swollen more;
I can’t step on my foot as I usual do,
Going for a swim or walk.

We are not getting younger as we wish
Our bodies talk to us,
The universe whispers, slow down girl,
It could be worse, be grateful.
Thankfully, it’s just a toe.
