One More Day!
(To Paul Goldenberg)
By Tatiana
Pahlen
We love our friends when they are fit and vigorous,
Sharing together our mutual views,
And visiting galleries, movies, receptions, plays,
Dining or hitting the dance floor.
What will happen when they get disabled –
How many of us will show them support?
Will you pay them a visit at their hospital cradles,
Grieving, consoling their dire curse?
Losing my friend to the Alzheimer’s beast
I dealt with patience and ultimate care,
Paul asked, if I would visit him again
I said: “I’m still here and was here yesterday.”
Born in France to a prominent clan,
Paul’s father was the right hand of De Gaulle
Escaping Paris, he ended up in the States,
A filmmaker, Mike Nichols, was his first roommate.
I will remember your brightest side,
Your vivid stories shall live forever,
Among your friends was Princess Di.
I wish I spent one more day with you!
