On Walt Whitman
By Tatiana Pahlen

Walt Whitman's talent was grander than his gift,

amassing the lexis to smear it through the page.

His self-proclaimed ingenuity affirms a cutting-edge,

among the shrewd and fools, the young and old;

He'd wander much too far

to capture and possess the newly budding souls of any creed and age,

due to his swelled up diarrheic tongue.

For years he chewed on leaves of the ripened grass

Lord knows, he might smoke it too;

Oh Glory thee who put a seed or two,

and sought the healthy sprouts, giving this man a buzz!
