Dance Me to the End of Love
To Leonard Cohen
By

Many tears were shed, a spiritual soul,
Since you left our earth
It left a hole in my heart
Now angels sing your songs:
“Hallelujah, Hallelujah.”
You were a fugitive running away
At the pick of your fame,
Rushing to the Buddhist’s enclave;
You humbly washed monk’s feet.
It was a challenge to live among them.
I played your song, “I’m Your Man,”
Since a rowdy teenager;
I shared it's wonderful treasure
With adults and strangers,
“Waiting for the Miracle to Come.”
The highest ecstasy was the precious ticket
To the Beekman Theater to see you live
Performing with your three loyal ladies,
You took off your infamous hat to please us.
Greeting an audience by getting on your knees.
“Dance Me to the End of Love”
Is echoing in my ears
My neighbors and friends embraced it too.
All fell for a husky voice!
“Everybody Knows” and “Repent”
I love them all, grand bard, Leonard Cohen!
